How do you setup eServerBackup?
eServerBackup is not a difficult program to setup if you know the right information. If you do NOT know the connection information to the server, then we recommend downloading our "Step-By-Step Setup Guide", then call your hosting company.
The document we provide will help you obtain the right information you need, by giving you the correct questions to ask your hosting company.
What are the default ports for FTP, SSH & MySql?
FTP: 21
SSH: 22
MySql: 3306
What is the difference between SSH & FTP?
Put very simply, the difference between SSH & FTP is that one is more secure than the other, but the more secure one is not always accessible.
SSH, is more secure and even faster than FTP. SSH encrypts files as it transfers. However, the only down-fall to SSH is that not everyone has access to use this method. The only way to find out if you have access is to contact your hosting provider. You may want to download our "Step-By-Step Setup Guide". This will help you ask the right questions.
FTP, is a standard way of transfer. Anyone who has a website, will most likely have this method available to use. The down-falls to this method are it's speed and security. FTP does NOT encrypt files as it transfers them, and it tends to be a little slower than SSH. We DO NOT recommend using this if you are backing up sensitive information like credit cards, social security numbers, etc...
What are the requirements to use the database backup feature?
Unlike other backup solutions, eServerBackup does NOT require you to place a file on your server to backup your database.
To use the database backup feature you must have a user with read permissions for the database.
We recommend creating a new user specifically for eServerBackup. This way, it won't eat any resources from your website.
Do you have a live demo that I can download to use for 30 days?
No. We don't provide this kind of a demo. We do provide tutorials and screenshots under our demo area, but that is about it for now. Maybe in the future :)
